Activity Feed

The Activity page is a single timeline of what is happening across a network. Forecasters open it from the left sidebar, directly below Home. The newest activity is at the top.

The feed is separate from the two other places a forecaster sees activity:

  • Home is a personal queue of the questions that are waiting on this forecaster's input, described in The Forecaster Experience. A question leaves the queue once they forecast it.
  • A question's Activity tab shows the forecasts and discussion on that one question.

The Activity page shows forecasts, comments, and publications from every question and every part of the network in one place.

What Appears on the Feed

Each entry has an icon that marks its type, the name of who did it, and when it happened:

  • Forecasts - a forecaster's forecast on a question, with its probability and rationale. Hinsley's AI forecasts appear too, as a single Hinsley entry.
  • Comments - comments on forecasts, and comments on blog posts when the network's blog is on.
  • Question publications - a question published to the network.
  • Resolutions - a resolution applied to a question, with the outcome it recorded. A resolution that is later reversed stays on the feed, marked as reversed.
  • Announcements - an announcement, with the option to read the full text in place.
  • Blog posts - a published blog post, with its summary.
  • Challenges - a published challenge, with its description.

Question publications and published challenges are attributed to their sponsor. A question publication without a sponsor is attributed to the user who published it. A challenge without a sponsor is attributed to the network. A forecaster's name links to their profile when profile visibility lets the viewer see it.

Long rationales and comments are shortened on the feed. Each entry links through to the forecast, question, post, or challenge it is about.

Who Sees What

The feed shows each forecaster only what they can see elsewhere on the network. Every entry is checked against the viewer's access when the page loads:

  • Forecasts, comments, publications, and resolutions for a question appear only to forecasters who are eligible for that question.
  • Drafts and unpublished challenges, announcements, and blog posts never appear.
  • If a comment is deleted or a question is unpublished, its entries leave the feed.

Human forecasts and comments are specific to the network. A forecast made on another network that shares the same question does not appear.

Replying and Reacting

A forecast entry on the feed is the same card that appears on the question's Activity tab. Forecasters can reply to a forecast and react to its rationale and comments without leaving the feed.

Each forecast shows its three most recent comments. Show earlier comments loads the rest of the thread in place.

Filtering

The Filters panel narrows the feed. Each filter applies as soon as it changes:

  • Activity type - one of human forecasts, Hinsley forecasts, comments, question publications, resolutions, announcements, blog posts, or challenges.
  • Topic - activity on questions tagged with one topic. Appears when the network has topics.
  • Challenge - activity on the questions of one published challenge. Appears when the network has a published challenge.

A topic or challenge filter shows question activity only. Announcements, blog posts, blog comments, and challenge publications do not belong to a question, so they are excluded while either filter is set. Reset clears every filter.

The feed loads 30 entries at a time. Load more adds the next 30 below the entries already on the page.
