Moderation

Forecasters can comment on each other's reasoning, so a network needs a way to deal with a comment or rationale that should not stand. Moderation is contributor-reported and admin-resolved.

How Content Gets Flagged

Any forecaster can flag a comment or a forecast rationale. They pick a reason - spam, harassment or abuse, inappropriate or offensive, off-topic, confidential or private information, or other - and can add a note explaining the problem.

Flagging does not hide anything. The content stays visible to everyone until an admin acts on the report, so a flag cannot be used to silence someone. Network admins are notified by email when content is flagged.

The Moderation Queue

Moderation in the network sidebar lists reports across three tabs:

  • Pending - awaiting review. The flagged content is still visible on the network.
  • Cleared - reports that were dismissed. The content stayed visible.
  • Removed - reports that were upheld and the content taken down.

Opening a report shows the flagged content in full, who wrote it, who flagged it and why, and any note they left. Several people flagging the same content are grouped into one report, so you resolve it once.

Resolving a Report

There are two outcomes:

  • Clear - the report is not warranted. The content stays exactly as it is, and the report moves to the Cleared tab as a record.
  • Remove - the report is upheld. The content is replaced with a "removed by a moderator" placeholder that everyone sees. The thread structure is preserved, so replies still make sense, but the content itself is gone.

You can leave a note with either outcome. Notes stay in the queue for other moderators rather than going to the person who flagged or the person who wrote the content.

Nothing is deleted outright. Cleared and removed reports both stay in the queue with who resolved them and when, so the network has a full moderation record.
