Network Forum

The network forum is a shared discussion area for signed-in people who can access the network. Threads have a title and an opening post, followed by replies. They can cover network-wide topics without belonging to a particular forecasting question or blog article.

Enable the Forum and Add Navigation Links

  1. As a network admin, open Staff > Forum.
  2. Turn on Turn on the forum. The forum is off by default.
  3. Select where its links appear: sidebar, top navigation, or footer.
  4. Save the settings. Use Open the forum to visit it.

You can change the labels and order of those links in Site Navigation. When the forum is switched off, its links are hidden and its pages are unavailable. Existing threads are kept for when it is enabled again.

Start a Thread or Reply

Open Forum and choose New thread. Enter a title and opening post, then submit. Open an existing thread to read its posts and add a reply. You can mention another member with @, react to posts, edit your own posts, or flag content for review. A thread's author and network admins can rename its title.

Thread Order

The default list puts pinned threads first, with the most recently pinned at the top. Other threads appear in order of their last activity, newest first. Choosing an explicit sort by replies or last activity applies that sort to the whole list, without giving pinned threads priority.

Admin Controls

  • Pin or unpin: control which threads appear first in the default list.
  • Lock or unlock: a locked thread remains readable, but members cannot add new replies. Admins can still post. Reactions, flags, and edits to existing posts remain available.
  • Delete: remove a thread from the forum and make its page unavailable. Its associated notifications are also removed.

Notifications and Muting

  • A new reply notifies the thread's author and people who posted earlier in that thread, provided they can still read it. The person writing the reply does not receive a notice about their own post.
  • An @mention notifies the mentioned member. If that person would also receive a reply notice for the same post, they receive only the mention.
  • Mute stops reply notices for that thread. Mentions can still notify you. Unmute allows future reply notices again.
  • Email delivery also follows the network's email switches and each member's preferences. Forum reply emails and mention emails have separate switches.
